Foster carer and connected carer training

Pre-approval training

During the assessment process, you will attend the introductory preparation course called Skills to Foster. This six-session course is designed to provide you with a basic knowledge and understanding of fostering.

The sessions include details on:

  • what foster carers do
  • identifying and life chances
  • working with others
  • understanding and caring for children
  • safer caring
  • transitions

You will be granted access to our online learning platform to complete the additional courses required as a part of your assessment to foster. They are all online and can be completed at your leisure during your assessment process. These courses are:

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
  • Child exploitation
  • Child protection level one
  • Health and safety

You need to complete the Skills to Foster course before you attend the fostering panel. See: The fostering journey
