Garden collection information
What to put in your garden waste bin
You can use your garden waste bin for household garden waste suitable for composting such as flowers, plants, grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings, most weeds and small branches (no larger than the width of your wrist). All waste should be loose and not in bags or liners and contained within the bin with the lid shut flat.
Please do not use you bin for household rubbish or recycling, food waste including peelings & eggshells, pet waste or bedding, noxious weeds e.g. Japanese knotweed & rhododendron, soils, stones, hard-core or treated wood. Any excess waste left on top or to the side of the bin will not be collected.
Bin delivery and collections
If you are new to the service you will receive one 240 litre green wheeled bin or, for properties that Swindon Borough Council identifies as unsuitable for wheelie bins, an annual supply of green waste bags. All bins/bags will be delivered within 10 working days from the receipt of payment and your first collection will be the relevant collection day for your area once you have received your bin/bags.
When you renew your subscription you will continue to use your existing bin and collections will continue on the same collection day and week for another year; for bag collections a further annual supply of bags will be delivered. If bag subscriptions are not renewed then surplus bags will not be collected. You can check your collection days by using our online postcode checker.
An assisted collection is available for those that are physically unable to transport waste containers to the front of their property. If you already receive an assisted collection for your refuse and recycling, this will automatically be applied to your garden waste collections.
