Disposal of large household items (bulky waste)

Book a collection

Many large items such as furniture, white goods and electrical appliances can be re-used with the help of local charities or online auction, freecycle or market place sites.

If your large goods are unsuitable for re-use, the council offers a paid service to collect large household items that do not fit into your bin.

We do not carry out house or garden clearances and do not enter domestic properties including garages, sheds or back gardens to remove items for collection.

Collections are normally made from the front of the property, where waste and recycling containers are presented, and items need to be left as close to the highway as possible.

A standard collection for a maximum of three items cost £37.00. However, if you receive Council Tax Support by at least 80%, the collection cost is £30.00. To get this concession, you will need to enter your Council Tax Support reference number during your application. You will also need to upload a copy of your Council Tax Support letter, showing how much support you receive.

Once booked, the collection charge is non-refundable however, bookings can be amended to change the date or items to be collected.

If you are unable to put items out for collection yourself, you should ask a relative, friend, carer or neighbour to put the items out for you.

You do not have to be at home when your items are collected.

Bookings that cannot be completed, either due to failure to meet the criteria or by items being removed prior to collection, will not be refunded.

We will only collect the items that you have booked. We will not take any additional items that are out.

On collection day, make sure to leave collection items out clearly visible and accessible for crews at the nearest point on your property to the highway. We will not collect any items inside the property, including garage or shed.

We reserve the right to rearrange your collection date for items which require more than a two man lift.

The collection days for bulky waste are different for different areas in the borough.
