Garden waste subscription

Garden waste collections

You can manage garden waste in several ways. You can compost it at home, take it to the household waste recycling centre (the tip), or choose to have it collected from your home through a paid garden waste subscription.

A garden waste collection subscription costs £68.50 per year, per bin or set of reusable bags. Collections take place fortnightly, with no collections for two weeks over Christmas, as set out in the service terms and conditions.

How garden waste is collected

We collect garden waste using green wheelie bins or reusable green bags that we supply.

You should place your bin or bags at the nearest point of your property to the highway by 6.00am on your collection day. Once you have subscribed, you can check your collection day using our online collection calendar.

Most subscribers receive a 240 litre green wheelie bin. If your property receives blue bags for general household rubbish, we will provide three reusable green garden waste bags instead.

Garden waste must be placed loose in the bin or bags. Do not use plastic or paper bags or liners. If you use a wheelie bin, the lid must be fully closed. Any waste left on top or beside the bin will not be collected.

If you have a question about your garden waste collection or subscription, use the garden waste enquiry form.

What you can and can't put in your bin or bags

Your garden waste is composted and recycled into environmentally friendly soil improver. Use the guide below to check what can go in your bin or bags.

Missed collections

If your bin or bags have not been collected by 5.00pm on your collection day and you think they have been missed, report a missed collection before the end of the next working day.

We will collect garden waste bins or bags that meet the requirements set out above. Reporting within this timescale gives us time to investigate and return before your next scheduled collection.

Assisted collections

Assisted collections are available if you are physically unable to take your waste containers to the front of your property.

If you already receive an assisted collection for your rubbish and recycling, this will automatically apply to your garden waste collections.
