Additional allowances you may receive

You may also receive additional allowances for each child you care for.

  • Birthday or name day allowance: Extra one week of allowance (£300).
  • Festival allowance: Extra one week of allowance (£300). Paid at the start of December.
  • Holiday allowance: Extra two weeks of allowance (£600). Paid at an agreed time. You can use this for holidays, day trips and activities.
You could receive up to £1,200 per child each year in additional allowances.
Enhanced payments: We may be able to agree extra payments if a child has more complex needs. This is agreed case by case.
Parent and child placements: £300 per person each week, plus a skills payment.

What the payment includes

Home from Home payments include a standard fostering allowance and a skills payment. You will also receive an enhanced allowance to help cover the additional costs of caring for a child with additional needs.

  • Enhanced payments: We may be able to agree extra payments of up to £300 per week, depending on the child's needs. This is agreed case by case.
  • Flexible arrangements: Many carers offer one weekend a month. Some offer two weekends and midweek nights, sometimes for different children. You can discuss what works for you with the team.
