Advice about paying your Council Tax

If you are having difficulty paying your bill, you should firstly make sure you have claimed any Council Tax Support or discount that you are entitled to.

If you cannot pay an instalment that is about to become due, you should contact the Council Tax team using the contact information at the bottom of this page.

Ask if your payments can be rescheduled or ask for details of debt advice agencies that may be able to help. 

If you are already in receipt of Council Tax Support and are still struggling to pay your Council Tax bill, contact the First Steps team below.

They can: 

  • assist with bailiff issues
  • set up affordable payment arrangements 
  • help budget for ongoing Council tax bills
  • signpost to Citizens Advice or other debt advice agencies

Please don’t delay in contacting us. Being unable to pay your Council Tax may result in further recovery proceedings, with additional costs and fees being charged to you.
