Changes to rent for Universal Credit

Your housing costs change on Monday, 6 April 2026.

Universal Credit claimants

You will need to update Universal Credit on 6 April 2026 to ensure you are paid the correct housing element.

PLEASE WAIT until you receive a 'to do' in your Universal Credit account to report your new rent from 6 April 2026.

You cannot report housing costs before this date.

Keep the rent increase letter you have recently received, so you can refer to the new costs.

DO NOT report new housing costs between 1 April and 5 April 2026, even if Universal Credit request you do this on 1 April 2026.
