Changes to rent for Universal Credit

Swindon Borough Council rents change on Monday, 3 April 2023

Universal Credit claimants will be responsible for reporting this change on or after Monday, 3 April. Reporting before this date may result in less Universal Credit Housing Element, as this will be based on previous housing costs.

In February, you will receive a ‘rent increase letter’ confirming the rent changes. At this stage, no action is required.

In April, you will receive the breakdown of rent and service charges on a pale green rent information letter. The rent and service charges will also be available on My Housing Tenancy from 3 April.

Universal Credit will then send you a ‘to do’ to complete in April.

Please note: You do not need to report this change yet. Check this webpage for further guidance closer to the time.
