Your options at 16

Further support

Are you in year 12 or 13, but not in learning? Do you need some more help before you are ready for a college course or to start an apprenticeship?

  • If you are NEET (not in education, employment or training), you are eligible for support from a Youth Engagement Worker (YEW). If you don’t know who your YEW is, just email us at and we will put you in touch.

Further information about the Youth Engagement Service can be found on the Local Offer website.

Two projects started between summer 2016 and January 2017. You can contact them directly:

  • Community First Building Better Opportunities Project - if you need help before you are ready for a more formal course. This is funded by the Big Lottery and the project commenced in October 2016.
  •  Links to Work - if you’re facing particular barriers which are preventing you from finding employment, this project can help you to gain new skills and find a job.
Both Swindon College and New College have very flexible courses available for you if you are under 25 and looking for a new start. To discuss these further either contact Julia Hoskins at Swindon College or Jackie Oldham at New College
Inner Flame also runs the Prince’s Trust Team Programme in Swindon, a 12 week programme to help you become more confident and motivated and improve your ability to work with others.
If you would like to support your local community before going back into learning you might speak to the Volunteer Centre Swindon.
