Fly-tipping
Report fly-tipping or dumped rubbish
Fly-tipping is when rubbish is dumped illegally. This could be anything from a few black bags to large amounts of waste, and it can be either solid or liquid.
We are responsible for:
- investigating reports of fly-tipping on public land
- clearing dumped rubbish from public land
- taking enforcement action against offenders
If you are caught fly-tipping, you could:
- be issued a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice for small-scale offences
- be prosecuted and fined for larger or more serious cases
How to report fly-tipping
You can report fly-tipping using our online reporting tool.
You will be asked to:
- mark the location of the waste on a map
- provide a short description of what has been dumped
Please note: If you cannot use the map in the form, you can still report fly-tipping by providing as much detail as possible, especially the location.
Fly-tipping on private land
If rubbish has been dumped on private land, it is usually the responsibility of the landowner to remove it.
You should contact the landowner first. We may only take enforcement action in certain circumstances.
