Transport Parental Engagement Sessions
Two parental engagement sessions were held in March. The objective of the sessions were to feed into a wider review of SEND Transport in Swindon and to move towards a flexible transport service that meets the changing needs of our children and young people. Discussions centred on: What works well and we need to keep What is not working well and we need to change Thank you to everyone who attended the engagement sessions and those who contributed via email.

EPS Good Practice – involving parents in interviews for Educational Psychology Service
What are we making better?
The Participation Strategy highlights that children, young people and families should be involved in all recruitment of roles and posts of those with whom they will have contact with. Therefore, we are enabling parents and young people to regularly be involved in interviews for Educational Psychologists (EPs).
What have we done?
A parent representative from Swindon SEND Families Voice was part of the interview panel for the Senior Educational Psychologist and Educational Psychologist posts. Young people were also part of the process by writing some of the interview questions for us.
What is the evidence?
A parent was involved in our Senior EP and EP interviews. Some of the interview questions we used were written for us by young people with SEND.
What has been the impact?
We successfully appointed to both roles, and the interviewees gave us the following feedback about the role of parents and young people in the process:
- It brought the important perspective of families to the questioning
- It linked to my values and ethics around collaborative working with families and promoted the values and importance of family views within the LA and EPS
- It gave an opportunity to demonstrate communication to people in different roles and helped keep my focus on the spectrum of stakeholders we work with
