Private hire driver badge licence renewal
To renew your private hire driver badge you will need to provide the following:
- A special reference number, located in your renewal letter
- A scanned proof from the DBS update service
- One passport photograph
- Tax check code
- A copy of your DVLA drivers licence
- A scanned copy of a medical certificate (if required)
- A scanned copy of your DVLA mandate (if required)
- The application fee paid at submission (£231 for 3 years)
You may have been asked to fill out a new DBS application, and sign up for the update service as part of your renewal/licence requirement. We cannot issue you with your updated licence until this has been completed.
Please note: If any documents required for your renewal application are missing at the point of submission, this will have an impact on the speed at which your application is processed.
Once you have applied, you will also be required to attend an in person appointment to have your Right to Work in the UK checked. For further information, see the right to work checks webpage.
After your application has been submitted it will be validated and determined. This will be in line with the following time scales:
- Validation from application received - 3 working days
- Determining grant - 10 working days
- Issuing after grant - 7 working days
- Total time from application to issue - 17 working days or 25 days

Apply for an additional green form
Private hire drivers licenced by Swindon Borough Council may apply to receive an additional driver licence paper copy (green form) up to a total of three times. This allows drivers to work for additional operator companies, these additional copies are marked A, B and C respectively.
To apply for an additional green form, you will need to fill out the form below and contact the licensing department attaching the document.

- One year licence renewal. Under special circumstances, you can request the application of a one year licence. To do so you must contact the Licensing team giving details of your request.
