Hay Lane permanent Gypsy, Roma and Traveller site

Hay Lane is Swindon’s permanent site for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller households. It offers long-term residential pitches with essential facilities. The site is in south Swindon.


About the site

Hay Lane has 37 pitches and is home to around 100 residents. Each pitch varies in size but can usually hold two caravans. Every pitch has its own purpose-built washroom and utility room.

The site was originally owned by Wiltshire County Council from 1975 and has been run by Swindon Borough Council since 1997.


Who can apply

You can apply for a pitch if you are part of the Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community and want a permanent place to live in Swindon. We will assess your application to check eligibility. If you meet the criteria, we will add you to the waiting list for future vacancies.
