Gypsy and traveller sites

Chiseldon Firs transit site

Chiseldon Firs is a short-stay transit site for Gypsy and Traveller households. It provides safe, temporary stopping places with essential facilities.

The site is on the A346 between Swindon and Marlborough, around three miles south of Junction 15 of the M4.

Site status

The site is currently closed for refurbishment. It is expected to reopen in Spring 2026. We will update this page when bookings reopen.

Who can stay

You can request to stay at the site if you are part of the Gypsy or Traveller community and need a short-term place to stop. This includes households moving through the area or leaving an unauthorised encampment.

Stays usually last one to two weeks, depending on availability and need.

There are 12 plots. You can have one pitch for your household, based on the size of your caravan and any vehicles. Guests cannot stay overnight.

Facilities

You will have access to:

  • showers, toilets and wash areas
  • a paddock for animals
  • a children’s play area

What you must provide before you arrive

Before you can be offered a pitch, you must:

  • show proof of identification
  • pay a refundable deposit
  • complete a suitability assessment so we can make sure the site is safe and suitable for your needs

Deposits and site charges can be paid in cash or by other agreed methods.

Please note: any breach of site rules or licence conditions may mean part or all of your deposit is kept. You may also be prevented from returning to the site.
