Changes to an HMO

If you plan to make significant changes to the property, you will need to apply to vary your HMO licence.

This includes changes to:

  • the layout or structure
  • the number of occupants
  • the number of shared amenities
  • the use of any room (for example, turning a bathroom into a kitchen)
  • the manager of the HMO
  • the use or layout

You can apply to vary your licence by emailing healthyneighbourhoods@swindon.gov.uk or by sending a message via your HMO licence online account.

If the Licence Holder (person in control) of the HMO is due to change, the new proposed licence holder must apply for a new licence. The licence cannot be transferred to another person.

The existing licence holder remains legally liable for the HMO until such time as a valid application is submitted.
