The Blue Badge scheme is a national arrangement of parking concessions. If you qualify for a blue badge and are either a driver or passenger, you will be allowed to park close to facilities and services such as public buildings, shops, etc. You would automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you:
are receiving High Rate Mobility Disability Living Allowance
are on a War Pensioners Mobility Supplement
have a motability grant for your own car
have a Government issued car
have a severe disability in both upper limbs, drive a motor vehicle regularly but cannot turn the steering wheel by hand
are a registered blind person
A Blue Badge may also be granted in the discretionary to people who have a permanent and substantial disability which causes inability to walk or considerable difficulty in walking. In this instance we would write to the GP for Authorisation.
Alternatively, download and complete a Blue Badge Application Form (PDF 128Kb)
A printed application form can also be picked up from Customer Services.
You will need to provide two 'passport style' photos in a digital format. If you do not have the facilities to provide a digital photo, this service can be provided free of charge by visiting Customer Services.
The cost of a Blue Badge application is £10 and the badge should be renewed every 3 years.
If your blue badge has been stolen you should contact the police on 101 who will provide a crime reference number. The Council will need this number in order to process a duplicate badge. You will also need to provide 2 further passport photos and a £5 fee. If submitting these through the post, please supply a short covering letter explaining the circumstances.
If you no longer require your blue badge please return it to Customer Services. We will then update our records so no renewal reminders are sent.
Please see the Department for Transport website: Blue Badge Scheme (www.dft.gov.uk/topics/access/blue-badge) for more information about Blue Badges.
