School nursing

Our school nursing service supports children’s health needs within their educational environment. This support includes:

  • Help with developing and agreeing health care plans for children with complex needs and training staff when children need special medical help or medication in school
  • Meeting with children and their families to support health issues
  • Vision, hearing, height and weight screening
  • Help with mental and emotional health and wellbeing

The team has a wealth of experience and takes regular training to work with children, young people and their families. It includes:

  • specialist nurses
  • registered nurses
  • school health screeners

The Department of Health and Social Care provides a fact sheet for parents outlining the role and support offered by health visitors and school nurses.
