What is the Local Offer?

From September 2014, in accordance with the Children and Families Act, all local authorities must publish a Local Offer.

This must set out, in one place, information about provision they expect to be available across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those with or without an education, health and care (EHC) plan.

The SEND Local Offer is the “go to” website for SEND in Swindon and the first way for children, young people and families to access information to support their SEND journey.

The priority for this website is to empower children, young people and families across Swindon by giving them:

  • knowledge about what they should expect
  • the services and provision available and how to access it
  • information about what to do if they are not satisfied.

The SEND Local Offer will also be the "go to" resource for practitioners working across education, health and care.

The Swindon Local Offer is aimed at:

  • children and young people with SEND from age 0 to 25
  • their parents and carers
  • practitioners and professionals

The Local Offer must include information on the following:

  • accommodation
  • childcare
  • education
  • health and social care
  • leisure activities and short breaks
  • personal budgets
  • preparing for adulthood
  • respite care
  • support services
  • training and employment
  • transport
