Elective home education

Elective home education is when you choose to educate your child at home instead of sending them to school.

If your child is educated at home, they will not be on a school roll.

Before you choose elective home education

Parents, carers and the Council have legal responsibilities for elective home education.

Before you decide, read our elective home education (EHE) policy (PDF). It explains these responsibilities.

Resources for home education

You can find resources and activity ideas on our home schooling resources for parents, teachers and SENCos page.

How we monitor elective home education

The Education Welfare Service has a legal duty to monitor elective home education. This is to make sure all children receive a suitable education.
