Town centre regeneration

Town centre generation homepage

Swindon’s high street is adapting to changing times and the needs of the local community.

Securing its position as a place people choose to live, work and visit requires the combined efforts and investment of the private, public and voluntary sectors – including landowners, developers, the council and Government.

We recognise there is much work to do to improve the town centre, but real change takes time. We are committed to doing everything we can as part of a collective effort working with local and national partners. Over the next four years, £100m of council-led investment will be spent on a variety of projects to improve the heart of our town. Yet this is only part of the story.

These pages explain what we are doing to sow the seeds for the town centre’s transformation, while acknowledging some of the challenges Swindon and other towns and cities are facing in an ever-changing world. We have also put together a list of answers to frequently asked questions to set out why there is no quick fix to deliver the town centre we all want to see.
