Wichelstowe Quality Bus Corridor

The Wichelstowe quality bus corridor improves bus connections between Wichelstowe and Swindon town centre.

The Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership funded the project through its Local Growth Fund.

Improvements along the route

The project included three road improvement schemes between Wichelstowe and the town centre:

  • changes to the approaches to Mannington Roundabout to increase capacity for all road users and support the bus priority measures at Wootton Bassett Road and Penzance Drive when they become fully operational
  • widening part of Pipers Way, where property boundaries allowed, to create a bus lane for services travelling towards the town centre
  • creating a continuous bus lane from the eastern end of Commercial Road to Princes Street, through Regent Circus, by changing the road layout

The project also improved facilities for bus passengers and widened footways for pedestrians.
