On-street parking controls
Parking controls help manage parking on public roads. They show where you can park and where parking is prohibited.
Types of parking control
There are two types of on-street parking control:
- prohibited parking, such as yellow lines and clearways
- permitted parking, such as pay and display bays and residents’ parking zones
Where parking is prohibited, it is an offence to park on the road, pavement, or verge next to the restriction.
Why we introduce parking controls
We may introduce parking controls to:
- keep routes clear for emergency service vehicles
- prevent obstructions on key roads, particularly at peak times
- provide on-street parking spaces, including pay and display bays and residents’ parking zones
Single yellow lines are one type of control used to keep roads clear at certain times.
