Pass Plus is practical training that helps qualified drivers improve their driving skills and hazard awareness.

About Pass Plus

You can take Pass Plus after you have passed your driving test. The course includes at least six hours of practical training covering:

  • motorway driving
  • town driving
  • country driving
  • driving in all weather conditions
  • night driving

Improving your driving skills and hazard awareness may reduce your risk of being involved in a serious crash.

Some insurance companies offer discounts to young drivers who have completed Pass Plus.

Who can get the subsidy

We offer a £60 subsidy towards the cost of Pass Plus training.

To qualify, you must:

  • be aged 17 to 24
  • live, study, or work in Swindon
  • use an approved driving instructor who is registered to deliver Pass Plus
  • register with us before you start the course
  • pay your driving instructor the remaining cost of the training

When you register, we will give you a unique driver reference number. Your instructor will need this number before you start your training.

Before you apply

Try to book an instructor before completing the application form.

We will automatically close your application if you have not booked an instructor within three months of applying.

If you do not have an instructor, you can find a driving instructor registered to deliver Pass Plus on GOV.UK

After you complete the course

Once you have completed your training and reached the required standard:

  1. your instructor will invoice us directly for the £60 subsidy
  2. you must pay your instructor the remaining training cost
  3. your instructor will give you a training report
  4. you should send the report to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)

The DVSA will use the report to issue your Pass Plus certificate. You will need the certificate if you want to apply for a discount on your car insurance.
