Apply to become a local authority building regulations partner

Swindon Borough Council is a member of Local Authority Building Control (LABC). LABC represents building control departments in local authorities across England and Wales.

Visit the Local Authority Building Control website for more information.

Local authority partnering

The Local Authority Partnering Initiative helps architects, contractors and developers work with the building control department of their choice.

If you become a partner, your building regulation applications are checked by your chosen partner authority. This applies wherever the work takes place in the country.

Partnering helps us build a good working relationship with you. It also means we can get to know your work and offer the right expertise when you need it. This can help us process your applications more efficiently.

How to apply

Contact the Building Control Team before you apply to become a partner.

Once you have spoken to the team, apply online using the LABC form.

Benefits of partnering

Partnering can help companies that work in more than one area and deal with several local authorities.

It gives your company or adviser:

  • a direct working relationship with your preferred local authority for advice and plan checks
  • site inspections by the local authority where each project takes place
  • access to LABC’s national network, which has more than 2,500 successful partnership agreements

If you work for a regional or national company, partnering can also offer:

  • one building control partner authority to manage the process with local authorities across the country
  • consistent advice and a clear approach to best practice
  • competitive pricing
  • expert knowledge from people with practical experience in innovative design
  • a multidisciplinary approach, with specialists from fire, police, highways, environmental health and planning
  • detailed local knowledge to help find solutions for difficult or complex sites
  • fast plan checks, inspections and completion certification
  • simple administration and billing systems that can be adapted to your project management needs
  • advice on current and future energy, environmental and quality standards
