Appealing a decision

You have the right to appeal if we reject your application.

You can appeal on the basis of:

  • the child’s eligibility
  • the walking distance measured in relation to statutory walking distances
  • the safety of the walking route
  • the suitability of the transport we have offered

We review the appeals in two stages.

Stage one

You can request a stage one review within 20 working days of receiving our decision. You will need to complete a transport appeal form online. We will provide a link to the form in the e-mail notifying you that your application has been rejected.

A senior officer will review the original decision within 20 working days of receiving the form. We will send you an email notifying you of the review outcome.

Stage two

You can request a stage two review within 20 working days of receiving our decision at stage one. You will need to complete a transport appeal form online. We will provide a link to the form in the e-mail notifying you that your application has been rejected.

An appeal meeting will be scheduled within 40 days of receiving your stage two request. At this meeting, the education transport appeals sub-committee will consider written and verbal representation from parents and officers involved in the case.

You can read our education transport policy for more details.
