Home library service
If you cannot get to a library, we can bring books and audiobooks to you at home. A volunteer from your local community will choose items based on your interests and visit you every three weeks.
The service is free if you cannot visit a library and do not have someone who can go for you.
You can use the service for a short time, for example while recovering from illness or a hospital stay, or on a longer-term basis.
How the service works
Contact us to tell us what you like to read or listen to. We will arrange for a volunteer to deliver books or audiobooks to your home. We can also provide large print books.
Our volunteers wear identification badges. Where possible, the same volunteer will visit you each time.
There is no charge for requests or late returns. You can ask for specific titles, but you may need to wait for popular items.
We can deliver to:
- your home
- care homes
- sheltered accommodation

Concessionary library card
If you cannot visit a library but someone can visit on your behalf, you can get a concessionary library card.
The card lets you borrow up to 16 items at a time. We do not charge fines if items are returned late.
Speak to a member of staff at any Swindon library for more information.
