Bookstart

Bookstart gives free books to every child to help you enjoy reading together and build a love of stories at home.

Your child can get two packs:

  • Bookstart Baby Pack for babies aged 0 to 12 months
  • Bookstart Treasure Bag for children aged 3 to 4

Health visitors give these packs to families.

If English is not your first language, you may be able to get a book and guidance in another language. Ask your health visitor.

Children with additional needs can get extra support packs. A set number is available for each local authority. Ask your health visitor about:

  • Bookshine for children who are deaf
  • Booktouch for children who are blind or partially sighted
  • Bookstart Star for children with conditions that affect fine motor skills

You can get these packs as well as the two standard Bookstart packs.
