Report an abandoned vehicle

Find out how to report an abandoned vehicle and what action we can take if a vehicle has been left on public or private land.

Abandoned vehicles on public land

If you believe a vehicle has been abandoned on public land, you can report it online.

Before reporting a vehicle, check whether it is taxed using the GOV.UK vehicle tax service. If the vehicle is taxed and parked legally, we cannot remove it.

What happens next

We usually inspect a reported vehicle and begin an investigation within one working day.

If we decide the vehicle has been abandoned, we will arrange for it to be removed.

Vehicles abandoned on private land

The landowner is responsible for vehicles abandoned on private land.

If an abandoned vehicle is causing a nuisance, we may be able to serve a legal notice. Once we are satisfied the vehicle has been abandoned, we will remove it when we are legally permitted to do so.
