Report a damaged or missing drain cover

Swindon Borough Council is responsible for the inspection and repair of damaged drains, inspection covers and their frames on all public highways within the Borough.

Although not all drains, inspection covers and frames are the responsibility of the Council, when a problem is reported to us, one of our Highway Inspectors will visit the site to establish the ownership of the item and to arrange for it to be made safe as appropriate.

Report a problem

To help us give highest priority to the most urgent repairs, when reporting a problem please indicate:

  1. Whether the damaged drain or inspection cover is missing, broken, noisy, banging or rocking (if you can, please indicate how severely)
  2. The road or footpath on which the defect is located
  3. Where on the road or footpath the defect is located (i.e. outside House No.25)

Report a problem with a drain, inspection cover or frame

Response times 

Problems which require prompt attention because they represent an immediate or imminent risk to the public are inspected and made safe within one hour of being reported, following up with any permanent repair work within 6 weeks.

Problems of a less severe nature are assessed are inspected within 10 working days, with permanent repair work scheduled in to the Maintenance Programme.
