Revised draft Swindon Local Plan 2036
The revised draft Swindon Local Plan 2036 sets out the development strategy and policy framework for Swindon and, once adopted, will be used to guide decisions on planning applications up to 2036. It proposes a range of strategies, including site allocations, to provide sufficient housing, employment and town centre sites to meet the Borough’s future needs. It also includes draft development management policies to guide decision making on the quality of planning applications submitted to the Council.
Public consultation on the draft Swindon Local Plan 2036 was first held between Tuesday, 17 December 2019 and Friday, 31 January 2020, 5.00pm.
In light of legislative changes and representations made, a revised draft of the Swindon Local Plan 2036 was then produced with a subsequent period of public consultation held between Thursday, 29 July and Thursday, 7 October 2021, 5.00pm.
This was the final opportunity for you to have your say on the legal compliance and soundness of the Swindon Local Plan before it is submitted to the Government for examination by an independent Planning Inspector.
Representations made during this consultation period will be sent to the Planning Inspector for consideration through the examination process.
Responses made during previous rounds of consultation will also be made available to the Inspector.
What happens next?
Council Planning Officers are now busy considering all representation received during the Regulation 19 consultation period and any suggested modification. A decision will be made by Members on the submission of the Local Plan and supporting document to the Secretary of State for Examination in Public. The Examination will consider whether the Local Plan meets the Tests of Soundness as set out in the National Planning Policy Framework. This submission will include a copy of all representation received during this consultation period in full.
If you have indicated that you wish to be heard at the Examination Hearing, you will be contacted by the Programme Officer in due course. We will publish full details and the timetable for the Examination in Public process on this webpage when these become known.
The current and next steps for producing the Local Plan Review 2036 are shown above under 'what happens next'. More detailed information is contained within our local development scheme.
All documents from previous stages of the Local Plan Review process, including ‘Regulation 18 - Issues and Options’ and ‘Regulation 18 - Preferred Options’ and 'Regulation 19 - revised draft of Swindon Local Plan 2036', remain available to view on the consultation portal.
