Why we use cameras

We use CCTV cameras to:

  • help detect crime by providing evidence
  • help prevent and reduce crime by deterring anti-social behaviour and public disorder
  • help the police identify and capture people suspected of committing a crime
  • help identify witnesses to suspected crimes

Privacy and legal compliance

We follow government guidelines on surveillance cameras.

We have also submitted a privacy impact assessment for CCTV in Swindon to the Surveillance Camera Commissioner. This helps make sure we take people’s privacy into account when we use CCTV.
