On Trak youth counselling

About us

OnTrak aims to ensure that all young people have access to the service free of charge regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin, sexuality, religious or cultural background. During the process, the young people are provided with:

  • a supportive relationship with a trained counsellor
  • a safe place to express themselves
  • advice and guidance to promote good mental health and wellbeing
  • help with establishing more effective ways to handle stressful situations
  • gaining a better understanding of themselves and their relationship to their world
  • a greater awareness of their personal resources, abilities and ways to build and improve self-esteem and self-confidence

What we offer

OnTrak is a counselling service for young people living in the borough of Swindon who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems and would be likely to respond positively to 'talk-based' therapies such as art, creative, CBT and humanistic approaches to meet the needs of the individual.

Opening times

We are open from Monday to Thursday and have later opening times on Monday's and Tuesday's.


How long are our waiting times?

Our waiting times are variable. We will let you know our estimated waiting times at the point of referral. 

We aim to offer swift and easy access to the service however, occasionally there may be a small wait time of no longer than four weeks. We can only accept a request for help on this basis.

We will contact you to offer an initial assessment appointment. Following this, the young person referred will be offered up to 12 weekly sessions. These sessions will take place on the same day and time and each session will last for 50 minutes.

Where it is felt to be appropriate and beneficial, the young person may be referred or signposted to other support services who may be able to better meet the young person’s needs.


Who the service is for

The service is available to young people who are:

  • aged from 13 to 18 years. Referrals are required for those who are no older than 17.5 years.
  • living in the borough of Swindon
  • experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems which may be improved by attending one-to-one talk-based therapy sessions

Who can request the service?

OnTrak accepts referrals from young people themselves, parents, guardians and carers as well as from Swindon Borough Council professionals.
