Carer's allowance

Carer's Allowance is a benefit that can help you financially when you're looking after someone with substantial caring needs.

You don’t have to be related to, or live with the person you care for, but you must:

  • be 16 year old or over, and
  • spend at least 35 hours providing care

For information on eligibility and how much you may be entitled, visit the Carer’s Allowance pages on GOV.UK.

Make sure you carefully read the guidance on how a claim can affect both your benefits and the benefits of the person you care for.

How to claim

You can make a claim using an online form at GOV.UK. It takes about 20 minutes to complete. You can apply using a mobile phone or tablet and it does not require a signature or a password.

If you can't make a claim online, there are other ways to apply.

Help making a claim

You can get help completing the claim form from Swindon Carers Centre and Citizens Advice Swindon.
