How to arrange a cremation
Use a funeral director
Most cremations are arranged through a funeral director. They can help you plan the service and make arrangements with us.
A funeral director can help with:
- booking the cremation service
- planning the order of service
- arranging music, readings and tributes
- organising transport and flowers
- helping you decide what happens to the ashes after the cremation
Arrange a cremation yourself
You can arrange a cremation yourself if you do not want to use a funeral director.
Our bereavement services team can explain what you need to do and guide you through the process.

The chapel and funeral service
You can personalise a funeral service at Kingsdown Crematorium to reflect the person who died and the people attending.
We will do our best to support any wishes you have for the service.
The chapel is interdenominational. This means it can support different faiths, beliefs and types of service.
If needed, we can cover the cross at the front of the chapel and other religious symbols on display.
The chapel can seat 120 or more people. There is standing room for another 30 to 40 people.
Our waiting room has a live video feed from the chapel. This means up to 40 more people can watch the service if the chapel is full.
The chapel is accessible to wheelchair users. You can ask your funeral director or our chapel attendant to remove a chair so you can sit with the main congregation.

Facilities available for a service include:
- Obitus music system
- display screen for photo or video tributes, for an extra fee
- organ, for an extra fee
- waiting room with refreshments
- toilets
- air conditioning
- parking
- hearing loop
- outside speaker system

Floral tributes
If you leave floral tributes after a funeral, we will remove unclaimed flowers on Monday mornings.
If you want to keep flowers or cards, remove them by closing time on Sunday. Once we remove them, you cannot get flowers or cards back.
If you would like us to use your flowers in our chapel, please tell our chapel attendant or your funeral director. We appreciate this gesture because it helps to prevent waste and brighten up the chapel.
After the cremation
You have different options for ashes after a cremation.
You can keep ashes at home, scatter them in a special place or choose a final resting place at one of our cemeteries.
