Apply for a pass plus subsidy

Pass Plus is a course that you can only take once you have passed your driving test. It consists of at least 6 hours of practical training.

The Pass Plus course covers:

  • Motorway driving
  • Town driving
  • Country driving
  • All weather driving
  • Night driving

By improving your driving skills and hazard awareness, you may reduce the risk of being involved in a serious crash. Some insurance companies offer a discount for young drivers who have completed a Pass Plus course. For more information see:

Swindon Borough Council offers a £60 subsidy towards the cost of Pass Plus training. To qualify for this subsidy, you must:

  • Be aged between 17-19
  • Live, study or work in Swindon
  • Use an approved Driving Instructor who is registered to deliver Pass Plus 
  • Register with us before starting the Pass Plus course to receive your unique driver reference number Your Instructor will need this number before training.
  • Understand that you are responsible for paying your Driving Instructor for the balance of the cost of training.

How to apply

To apply for the £60 subsidy, please download and complete the following form and return to the address provided on the bottom of the form: 

When you have completed your training and reached the required standard, your Instructor will invoice Swindon Borough Council direct for the £60 subsidy. They will also issue you with a training report which you should send to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to obtain your Pass Plus certificate. You will need a certificate if you want a discount on your car insurance.
