Licence Details
A Temporary Event Notice must be issued to inform Swindon Borough Council and the Police of proposed licensable activities, where those are not covered by a Premises Licence. It is not an application for permission, although there are rare circumstances in which they can be blocked.
What a Temporary Event Notice May Cover
The word ‘event’ can sometimes be misleading. Temporary Event Notices can cover a wide range of activities, which may not necessarily be ‘special’.
Each Temporary Event Notice is valid for a maximum of 96 hours and covers any combination of licensable activities. You may sell alcohol, without the need to also have a Personal Licence.
Requirements and Restrictions
You must give 10 full working days notice before the start of the event
Any one person or committee etc., may only issue five Temporary Event Notices in a calendar year
Any location can only be the subject of a Temporary Event Notice a maximum of 12 times in a calendar year
A holder of a Personal Licence may issue up to 50 notices per year, but the limit for the location (i.e. 12 per year) still applies
In extreme circumstances, the Police have the power to prevent the event taking place if there is a serious risk of crime
