EHCP banding framework review
When the cost of special provision for an individual student exceeds the £6,000 threshold of a mainstream school’s delegated budget for additional SEN support, the Local Authority provides "top-up" funding from the High Needs Block.
Level of need and the provision detailed within a child or young person’s EHCP will determine the funding provided from the High Needs Block. In Swindon, this currently runs from Band 6 (lowest) to Band 1 (highest) and is determined by setting type and primary need. There is no national framework for banding.
We will be consulting on the principles of a proposed revised banding model, specifically:
- the revised banding framework itself, which will use clear, published descriptors that explain what each proposed band represents in terms of level of need and type of provision
The survey will ask you questions relating the specific elements of the proposed banding framework, and below you’ll find key documents to help inform your answers.
