Primary school places and admissions

Primary school admissions for September 2020

Most children start school at the start of the school year following their fourth birthday. They can't start school before this. Unless you decide to educate your child at home, your child must start school by the school term following their fifth birthday.

You can apply for a primary or infant school place starting September 2020 for a child born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016.

You can apply for a junior school place starting September 2020 for a child born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013. You need to apply for a transfer to a junior school if your child currently attends an infant school. Your child doesn't automatically qualify for a place if they attend the related infant school.
