Traditional grave
A traditional grave allows a headstone and full kerb set to be placed on the grave. This is the only type of memorial allowed on this style of grave. Headstones only are not allowed.
Double depth burials are available in this section. This means the grave may be able to hold two burials.
The maximum size of the memorial is:
- 78 inches long, 36 inches wide and 6 inches deep for the kerb set
- 36 inches high, 36 inches wide and 6 inches deep for the headstone, measured from ground level
Lawn grave
A lawn grave allows a standard style headstone. The area is set out in a back-to-back style. Kerb sets are not allowed.
There is a 12-inch garden in front of the headstone where seasonal plants and bulbs can be placed.
Shrubs, trees and bushes are not allowed because their roots can affect neighbouring burials and make headstones unstable.
Only single depth burials are available in this section.
The maximum size of the memorial is 36 inches high, 24 inches wide and 6 inches deep.
For traditional and lawn graves, turfing is carried out automatically once the ground has settled. There is no extra charge for this.
Eco grave
An eco grave allows a green burial with a coffin made from materials sourced in an eco-friendly way.
The eco grave area is near the edge of Kingsdown Cemetery and backs on to a woodland setting.
Wild flowers will eventually cover the area, creating a natural meadow setting.
This option may be suitable for someone who loved birds and wildlife, or who wanted a natural burial setting with environmental benefits.
