Your perfect wedding
The Swindon Registration Service is delighted to work closely with you to ensure you achieve the marriage ceremony of your dreams. At Swindon Register Office we have three wonderful wedding venues accommodating up to 65 guests, all designed to provide you with a truly fantastic place to say 'I do'. The Garden Room, overlooking the beautiful Civic Rose Garden, accommodates up to 65 guests Up to 20 guests can attend your ceremony in the Juno Room, also with lovely garden views For more intimate ceremonies where the happy couple are accompanied by a maximum of six guests Many couples want to wed in a garden or another outdoor venue; however the law dictates that the legal act of getting married must take place under a fixed roof. We can offer couples a two-part marriage ceremony, with the legal act of getting married at Swindon Register Office in front of two or more witnesses, which can simply just comprise the legal words of marriage. This can then be followed a few days later by a celebratory ceremony with your friends and family outdoors at a place of your choosing, subject to approval by the Superintendent Registrar. The outdoor celebration can involve the bride being given away by her father or another person; vows being spoken and rings exchanged. Most couples want a ceremony that is meaningful and personal and we will do all we can to assist you with this Some people want as short a ceremony as possible while others wish to write their own words and include readings and music to make the occasion memorable. Our experienced celebrants can be on hand help and guide you to write a tailored ceremony which is perfect for you. All ceremonies must contain certain legal words but you can include the words you want about things that are important to you if wish. Our standard ceremonies can be added to with up to three readings from family members; friends or our celebrant or registrar. A template for bespoke ceremonies must be submitted by email at least four weeks before a wedding date. They are always subject to confirmation by the Superintendent Registrar. You can use wording suggestions or you can write your own. There are a few things you need to do officially before you can legally get married Both people must visit your local register office to give Notice of Marriage. Those living in the Borough of Swindon can do so at Swindon Register Office via a pre-booked appointment. Certain documents need to be brought and a statutory fee must be paid. Notice must be given fewer than 12 months before the intended marriage date and also within a month of making a wedding booking with the Swindon Register Office. If you wish to marry in a non-Church of England church or intend to marry abroad and have been told you require a Certificate of No Impediment then you must give notice to Swindon Register Office. Notice is required and additional documents might need to be provided if one or both of you are a national from outside the European Economic Area. This rule also applies if you want to marry in a Church of England church and are unable to do so by the publishing of banns – the minister will advise you. If you want to wed quickly you need to know that there must be at least a 28-day waiting period between the day you give notice and the date upon which you want to marry. Most marriage bookings begin with you paying a non-refundable £55 deposit, which is deductible from other fees which are required. Wherever you wish to marry you need to give a legal notice, which costs a minimum of £42 each. If you want to get married at an approved premise elsewhere you will need to pay for the celebrant and registrar to attend to conduct and register the marriage. See Marriage fees for more information. Booking a ceremony at Swindon Register Office is simple and can be done up to two years before your chosen date online anytime or in person during normal office hours. All you need to do is supply full contact details including an email address along with a non-refundable £55 deposit.
