Reporting a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle accident
If your Private Hire or Hackney Carriage vehicle is involved in an accident and is damaged, you must report it to the Licensing team within three days.
Use the online form below or email licensing@swindon.gov.uk to request a paper form.
Include the following in your report:
- Photographs of the damage, before repairs
- An engineer’s report confirming no structural damage, before repairs
An inspection will be necessary to ensure the vehicle can be licensed, safeguarding passenger safety. The Licensing Policy states that vehicles classified as Category ‘A’ (whole vehicle to be crushed), ‘B’ (body shell to be crushed) or ‘S’ (structural damage) will not be licensed.
Some insurers provide qualified inspectors for this otherwise, find your own mechanic.
If the vehicle's safety is uncertain, it will not be licensed.
