Apply for a scrap metal dealer licence

If your business is to collect, buy or sell scrap metal in the Borough, you will require a licence.

There are two types of licence:

  1. A site licence allows the licence holder to buy and sell scrap from a fixed location in the Borough. This includes motor salvage operators. Guidance notes (PDF)
  2. A collector’s licence authorises the licence holder to operate as a mobile collector. This is for anyone who travels to collect scrap metal from commercial or domestic premises. Mobile collectors are required to be licensed with every local authority in whose area they operate. Guidance notes (PDF).
