Apply for a sexual entertainment licence
You need a licence to run a sex shop, sex cinema or sexual entertainment venue in Swindon.

Fees
You must pay a fee when you apply for a new licence, renew a licence or request a variation. We will contact you to arrange payment after we receive your application form.

What you need to provide
You must send the following with your application:
- A completed application form
- A detailed plan of the premises
- Photos showing all signs and any external advertising
- Proof of right to work
- An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for everyone named in the application
- A completed Appendix A, if you are applying on behalf of a company or partnership

Email your completed documents to: licensing@swindon.gov.uk.
Consultation process
Your application will go through a 28‑day consultation period.
During this time you must:
- display public notices at the premises for the full consultation period
- place a public notice in a local newspaper, which will have an additional cost
All new applications will be considered at a licensing sub‑committee hearing.
How long the licence lasts
A sex establishment licence lasts 12 months. You must apply to renew it each year, and every renewal goes through the consultation process again.
