Competency and compliance test
The competency and compliance test assesses your ability to understand matters in the following areas, these are separated marked dependent on the type of test being undertaken:
Hackney carriage sections
- Equality and disability - five questions
- Passenger and driver safety - five questions
- Highway code - five questions
- Driver code of conduct - ten questions
- Landmarks - five questions
- Numeracy - five questions
- Tariff - five questions
Private hire sections
- Equality and disability - five questions
- Passenger and driver safety - five questions
- Highway code - five questions
- Driver code of conduct - ten questions
- Numeracy - five questions
The assessment takes one hour and takes place at the Civic Offices. The pass mark required for this test is an overall pass rate of 80%.
On the day of the test you are required to bring the following documents:
- Driving licence
- Right to work document or share code. Information on which documents to bring is available on the Government website.
Failing to bring the above documents with yourself on your specified booked test date will result in your test being cancelled, and you will be required to book again, paying an additional fee.
After you have completed the assessment, you will receive your results by e-mail within one working day.
No applicant may fail the test more than three times. If an applicant fails their test for more than three times, they will be required to wait for six months before retaking any additional tests.
The payment of the full test fee is applicable for each test booked. Any cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the test date and time. Tests cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or if an applicant fails to attend a test, will result in no refund of the fee.
