Help us to make council services easier to access
We are working to make it simpler for residents to contact Swindon Borough Council, find the right information and get the help they need.
Read how you can support ongoing work to make it easier to contact us and how you can join our Resident Design Network to help us shape better services.
Making it easier to get what you need
Every week thousands of people contact Swindon Borough Council for information, help or support.
We provide more than 200 different services, from waste and recycling and Council Tax to housing, social care and support for children and families.
Over time, different ways of contacting those services have developed. This can mean different phone numbers, email addresses, webpages and forms depending on what you need.
We know this does not always make it easy to find the right place to start and are working to change that.
What we're working on
As part of our wider work to improve Council services, we are looking at the whole experience of contacting us, from finding information and using our website to speaking to someone when you need help.
We want to make it easier for you to:
- find the information or service you need
- know the best way to contact us
- get things done online simply, when that works for you
- get help if you cannot or do not want to do something online
- avoid having to repeat information unnecessarily
- know what is happening after you contact us
- get to the right person or service when you need more help
This work is still at an early stage. We will be making improvements over time and will update this page as our plans develop.
Help to design better services
We know the people who use our services often have the best insight into what works well and what makes things difficult.
We have created a Resident Design Network so residents can help us design and improve services.
You don’t need any specialist knowledge or previous experience. We want the network to include people with different experiences of living in Swindon and using Council services.
How to get involved
From time to time, we may invite members of the network to:
- tell us about their experience of contacting or using Council services
- help us understand a problem before we start designing a solution
- look at early ideas and tell us what would or would not work
- help us design solutions to problems residents experience
- test a new webpage, online form or process
- help us make information and instructions easier to understand
- take part in a short discussion, workshop or testing session
- tell us whether a change we have made has actually improved things
Sometimes we might want 15 minutes of your time to look at a webpage. At other times we might invite people to a workshop to help us explore a bigger issue.
You can decide which opportunities you would like to take part in. There is no expectation that you take part every time.
