Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Care Farms uses nature to help children and young people with mental ill-health, Autism, social and communication difficulties, those in need of emotional support and those who, for whatever reason, may be struggling in a school setting. The service is student-led and works with children and young people from a range of backgrounds, including those with support needs in Tiers 2 to 4.
Some of the therapeutic activities that the children and young people could expect to complete at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Care Farms include:
- Nature Conservation
- Farming, Animal Care and Horticulture
- Site Maintenance
- Art
- Forest School
- Wild Play
Spending time in nature can help children and young people to manage emotional challenges, while also building confidence, self-esteem and independence. The service also promotes numeracy and literacy skills through the activities that the children and young people complete, such as measuring materials for a woodwork project.
