Service summary

Oxenwood Outdoor Education Centre and Linkenholt Countryside Adventure Centre supports children and young people from all backgrounds, including those who struggle to access mainstream education and those who find maintaining social relationships challenging. They work with individuals with support needs in Tiers 1 to 3 and each session can be delivered in a one-to-one or small group setting.

Children are encouraged to connect with nature and embark on a range of adventures to help them develop their confidence, resilience, independence and motivation. The curriculum focuses on children and young people’s social, emotional and physical development.

Some of the activities that children and young people can participate in, include:

  • bush craft and survival, such as emergency survival skills, shelter building, navigation, campfire cooking, water purification and basic emergency first aid
  • discover history, such as Stone Age Life, Ancient Britons, Knights and Castles and Romans, Saxons and Vikings
  • outdoor adventurer, such as climbing, mountain biking and hiking and navigation

Each of these sessions encourage physical activity and social interaction by supporting children and young people to overcome their fears and face challenges with confidence. Each session also supports children and young people in developing their coordination, problem solving and teamwork skills. The service encourages the children and young people to think about the nature around them to develop their environmental awareness skills.

Staff have a range of qualifications to support children and young people. Young people can access the service by contacting Oxenwood Outdoor Education Centre through their website.
