Service summary

BEST- Be A Better You is a sports-based programme offering one-to-one mentoring and sports enrichment sessions for children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities. The sessions are delivered by skilled and understanding mentors and sports coaches, who can adapt sessions for individuals with Tier 1-4 support needs.

BEST – Be A Better You is open Monday-Fridays 9am-5pm and runs a Youth Club on Wednesday evenings from 5pm-8pm. The service offers three types of programme:

  • Early Intervention – Sports based one-to-one mentoring and sports enrichment sessions
  • Alternative Provision – Sports based one-to-one mentoring, sports enrichment sessions, tutoring and youth clubs, bespoke, targeted group work sessions
  • Holiday Activities and Food– Sports based small group activities (including boxing, martial arts and football), holiday activities, cooking, arts & craft and well-being sessions

The one-to-one mentoring sessions can take place on site or in the community. They also provide timetabled enrichment sessions on site and in schools. The alternative provision service offers the AQA Unit Awards Scheme. The length of time that an individual can attend the service depends on individual need and funding.

BEST – Be A Better You believe in a multi-agency approach and works with local authorities, schools and colleges to provide services for children and young people. Parents and stakeholders can refer directly into to the service though the website.

The service aims to support learners to increase their confidence and emotional resilience, while also promoting positive relationships with other members of the local community.

  • Level 3 Safeguarding Training
  • Prevent Training
  • First Aid Training
  • Mental Health First Aid Training
  • Level 2 England Boxing Coaches
  • Level 1 and 2 FA Football Coaches
  • Level 3 Personal Trainers
