Apply for a bus pass
You may qualify for a bus pass because of your age or a disability. Check who can apply and which documents you need before starting your application.
You can also apply for a companion pass when you apply for your bus pass.
Who can apply
You must live in the borough of Swindon. Check which council area you live in.
You must also qualify because of your age or a disability.
Applying because of your age
You can apply if you have reached the qualifying age for a bus pass.
You can apply up to 21 days before you reach the qualifying age.
Applying because of a disability
You can apply if you:
- are blind or partially sighted
- are profoundly or severely deaf
- are unable to speak
- have a long-term condition that severely limits your ability to walk
- do not have arms or cannot use both arms
- have a severe disability
- have a learning disability
- cannot get a driving licence for medical reasons
Documents you need
You must scan and upload one valid document from each relevant section.
We do not reimburse any costs you pay to provide evidence.
Passport-style photograph
Provide a digital photograph or a scan of a printed photograph. Read the passport photo rules on GOV.UK.
Proof of address
Provide one of the following:
- your Council Tax bill for the current year
- your driving licence
- a recent utility bill in your name, such as a gas, electricity, or landline telephone bill
Proof of age
If you are applying because of your age, provide one of the following:
- passport
- birth certificate
- other official documentary evidence
Proof of disability
If you are applying because of a disability, provide one of the following:
- certificate of vision impairment
- Blue Badge
- statement showing the higher-rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
- statement showing a Personal Independence Payment award of eight points or more for moving around or communicating verbally
- statement showing a War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement award
- NHS certificate confirming epilepsy
- letter from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency stating that you cannot drive
Disability Living Allowance is only available to children under 16 and people born on or before 8 April 1948.

A social worker, carer, or hospital consultant must stamp the completed form.
What happens after you apply
We will post your bus pass within 15 working days.
