How quickly we remove graffiti

We prioritise the removal of graffiti that is offensive, abusive or could cause distress to residents. This helps us address the most serious cases as quickly as possible.

Offensive or abusive graffiti on council-owned buildings and structures will be removed within one working day of being reported.

Non-offensive graffiti on council-owned buildings and structures will be removed within 10 working days.

Graffiti on commercial or utility property

If the graffiti is on privately owned business property or utility infrastructure, you should contact the owner directly.

This may include:

  • business premises
  • gas tanks
  • BT cabinets
  • Virgin Media cabinets
  • electricity substations
  • water substations

Graffiti removal from your home

We offer a free service to remove graffiti from private homes in the borough.

Before we can carry out work, you must complete a disclaimer form to confirm that you accept the terms and conditions of the service.

Once we receive your completed disclaimer, we will arrange the work to be completed within 28 working days.

Removal methods

We use one of the following methods:

  • high-pressure jet washing
  • over-painting

We will use over-painting if we believe jet washing could damage the surface.

If you do not want jet washing to be used, you can request over-painting only by indicating this on the disclaimer form.
