On Saturday (11 November) in the town centre, a service will take place at the Cenotaph at 11am to mark Armistice Day featuring a two-minute silence and the laying of crosses.

For Remembrance Sunday (12 November), a British Legion parade with the armed forces will take place at 10.35am, going from the Granville Street car park to the Cenotaph.

To remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedom and protected our way of life, the parade will end at the Cenotaph at 10.45am where a service will be held, including a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths.

The occasion will be held on behalf of the Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Barbara Parry, alongside the Royal British Legion.

Both events will be delivered by Reverend Canon Simon Stevenette from Christ Church with St Mary’s and will see The Last Post performed. Both will also be attended by councillors from across the Borough and members of the armed forces.

Everyone is welcome to attend either ceremony as the Borough unites to remember the Armed Forces, and their families, as well as the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.

Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Barbara Parry, said: "I am proud and honoured to represent our town, to help to ensure that younger generations continue to remember all those who serve and have served our Crown and country, sacrificing their lives to protect our lives and our freedom.

“We owe them so much, the very least we can do is to show them the utmost respect, keep their memory alive, while also striving to live in peace and encouraging others to do the same."
